In 2020, the Government of India replaced Udyog Aadhaar with a more advanced and integrated system known as Udyam Registration. This transition was aimed at improving data accuracy, enhancing transparency, and aligning MSME registration with modern digital governance practices. Udyam Registration is directly linked with Income Tax and GST databases, enabling automatic verification of business details without manual intervention. Unlike Udyog Aadhaar, it allows only one registration per Aadhaar number, ensuring uniqueness and eliminating duplication. The registration certificate includes a QR code for easy verification and authenticity. While Udyog Aadhaar is no longer active for new registrations, it played a crucial role in laying the foundation for this advanced system and remains an important part of India’s MSME development history.
