FSSAI Mandates Display of License and QR Code for Consumer Grievance Redressal Date: August 1, 2025 Source: India Advocacy | FSSAI & Food Compliance Desk

In a recent directive aimed at strengthening consumer protection, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has made it mandatory for food businesses across the country to display their FSSAI license number along with a QR code linked to the consumer complaint app. This step is expected to make grievance reporting easier and promote greater transparency.

Empowering Consumers with Instant Access
According to the FSSAI, all food service outlets—whether online or offline—must now prominently display:

Their valid license or registration number, and

A QR code that redirects customers to the Food Safety Connect app, enabling direct lodging of complaints.

This move follows the government’s broader push towards enhancing digital access and ensuring consumer rights in the food sector.

Who Must Comply?
The rule applies to a wide range of operators, including:

Restaurants and cafes

Cloud kitchens

Online delivery platforms

Retail food outlets

Catering units and food trucks

Failure to comply may result in penalties or license suspension under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Benefits of the QR System
The QR code initiative is designed to allow consumers to:

Instantly verify the food business’s FSSAI license status

File complaints directly through the app

Track complaint progress in real time

Improve traceability and enforcement

India Advocacy’s Perspective
