FSSAI’s Commitment to Food Safety in Tirumala
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has pledged to take significant steps towards providing quality and healthy food to many devotees visiting Tirumala for darshan. At the 41st Central Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting in Tirupati, FSSAI, in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh government, discussed enhancing food safety standards in the region.
Collaboration Between TTD and FSSAI
At the request of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) executive officer A.V. Dharma Reddy, FSSAI officials, including CEO G. Kamala Vardhana Rao and Andhra Pradesh Food Safety Commissioner J. Nivas, they visited Tirumala. They focused on improving the quality of food and drinking water supplied to devotees. Discussions also centered on upgrading the laddu-making unit and Anna Prasadam center, where TTD provides free meals to devotees daily.
Establishment of a Food Quality Testing Lab
FSSAI officials expressed their willingness to establish a state-of-the-art food quality testing lab in Tirupati. This initiative aims to ensure that the food provided to the numerous devotees is safe, hygienic, and meets high standards.
Training for Hotels and Restaurants
In a joint effort with TTD, FSSAI plans to train managers and staff of hotels in Tirupati to ensure they serve healthy and quality food to the pilgrims. This is part of a larger effort to elevate food safety standards in the entire pilgrim city.
