A rental agreement is a contract of rental, usually written, between the owner of a property and a renter who desires to have temporary possession of the property. It is distinguished from a lease, which is more typically for a fixed term. A lease is a contract wherein one party vests its partial rights attached to the property to another with guided terms and conditions relating to how they wish to deliver the property to another. Rental agreements are a way to safeguard the interest of both the landlord and the tenant.

The agreements of such nature can be:

  • Unregistered rent agreements (Tenure of 11 months, subject to renewal).
  • Registered rent agreements (Tenure exceeding 11 months).

Note: Government or e-stamp/notary charges (if applicable) are additional, except for the Bihar plan which includes ₹1000 stamp duty.

  • Service includes drafting based on inputs shared by the parties.
  • One round of minor edits is included within 7 days of delivery.
  • Compliance is based on standard practices; party-specific legal risks should be independently evaluated.
  • Government fees, registration, courier, or physical notarization are extra unless stated.
  • If work has not started, a full refund may be issued on request.
  • After draft preparation, refunds are pro-rated against work completed.
  • Government fees (like stamp duty) are non-refundable once paid.
