Focus on E-Commerce Warehouses and Delivery Standards
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has urged state authorities to increase surveillance on warehouses operated by e-commerce platforms. At its 45th Central Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting, FSSAI emphasized issuing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for delivery personnel and warehouse operations to ensure food safety for consumers.
Strengthening Food Safety at Tourist Destinations
With the peak tourist season (November to March) approaching, FSSAI has advised States and Union Territories (UTs) to deploy “Food Safety on Wheels” mobile labs at popular destinations. This initiative aims to maintain heightened safety standards for domestic and international tourists visiting high-footfall areas.
Training for Food Handlers and Integrated Safety Measures
The committee highlighted the need for comprehensive training of Food Business Operators (FBOs) under the Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) program. States and UTs have been tasked with training 25 lakh food handlers, including those in college and hostel canteens, by March 2026. The FSSAI also underscored adopting an integrated food safety approach through collaboration with relevant ministries and stakeholders.
Consumer Awareness and Outreach Campaigns
FSSAI stressed the importance of consumer engagement in fostering a culture of healthier eating habits as part of the Eat Right India movement. States have been encouraged to amplify food safety awareness via outreach initiatives such as fairs, walkathons, and street plays (Nukkad Nataks).
