FSSAI Waives Registration Fee for Street Food Vendors

Fresh move of the Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has asked FSSAI to remove an ₹100 registration fee for street food vendors. This directive intends to assist the petty food business operators having turnovers of up to Rs 120000 in a year.

Training and Awareness Programme

He conducted a meeting for awareness and training of the around 1,350 street food vendors where the name and address of the venue was Vigyan Bhawan New Delhi. Certificates and ‘Street Safe’ rapid testing kits were issued to the participants with the message that the application of safe practices and hygiene measures should be used to augment the business prospects.

Government’s Vision

The goal of the government is to increase the volume of trade and the chances of the enterprise for street food sellers and at the same time guarantee the hygiene of food. Nadda was keen to ensure that safe practices of traditional street food would create products that consumers could trust enough and be reliable.

Certification Benefits

The certification by FSSAI is to bring the feeling of genuine street food vendors and improve consumers’ trust resulting in improved businesses among the vendors.

While congratulating the vendors, Nadda urged them to expand their ventures by using the PM-SVANidhi scheme. This program is in line with the directions of the Prime Minister to create 100 street food centers all over the various districts.

SOP Released and a New Dedicated Website

Nadda also released an ‘SOP for Street Food Vendors,’; that prescribes actions regarding cleanliness and safety measures relevant to the selling of foods on the streets. Furthermore, he officially launched a website for suppliers to post and read success stories as well as food safety materials.

Speech by Minister of State for Health

The Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel also spoke on people-valued Indian Street Foods which include Basket Chaat of Lucknow and Kulhad Chai of Varanasi. They stressed on the government’s commitment on upgrading the food standards throughout the country.
