Comprehensive Testing Results
New Delhi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) tested MDH and Everest spice samples, and the results revealed that 84 percent of the samples had no detectable levels of ethylene oxide (EtO). In the reports received from 28 laboratories out of 34 reports, 28 reports did not detect EtO, an FSSAI official stated. These lab reports were thoroughly checked and approved by a science committee at FSSAI.
National Level Inspection and Export Requirements
Based on these research findings, FSSAI has called for nationwide raids to check on the safety and quality of spices. Moreover, the Spices Board of India has made EtO testing compulsory for spices to Singapore and Hong Kong markets, which clearly indicates the concern towards maintaining quality in the global market.
The rigorous testing and follow up measures that have been taken by FSSAI are intended to assure consumers about the safety of popular spice brands and boost the perception of Indian spices in the global market.
